Details

Solid, bold, and beautifully earthy — Mexican Bricks capture the rugged essence of traditional ladrillo de barro (clay brick) in edible form. Each piece is handcrafted from authentic Mexican terracotta clay, fired to perfection for that unmistakable scorched-earth aroma and metallic tang. The bite starts firm with a medium-hard crunch, breaking down into fine, edible granules that melt smoothly into a powdery finish. Expect deep, grounding flavours reminiscent of dry dirt, sunbaked soil, and the faint cement-like sharpness typical of true barro clay.

Traditional Clay Origins:
Handcrafted from the same barro rojo clay used in Mexico’s traditional pottery and brickwork, Mexican Bricks are steeped in heritage. Across pre-Columbian South America, edible clays such as chaco (Quechua) and pasa (Aymara) were prized for their mineral richness and grounding properties. These clays, rich in natural smectites, were often incorporated into food rituals and clay sauces — where the earth itself became an ingredient. Each Mexican Brick embodies this ancient connection, bringing the elemental taste of Mexican soil and tradition to every crunchy, sunbaked bite.

Uses:

  • Sensory play and mindful texture enjoyment

  • Collecting and aesthetic display

  • Controlled clay tasting for pica and geophagy cravings

  • Relaxation or grounding through texture and scent

  • Soaking and softening for deeper red-earth flavour exploration

Storage Tips

To keep your clays and treats fresh, crunchy, and full of flavour, always store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from moisture, humidity, and strong odours. Exposure to air or dampness can alter both texture and taste.

We highly recommend using our stash boxes, available on the website — designed specifically to protect and organise your clay collection with ease.

Handling Guidelines

  • clean, dry hands

All clay treats and terracotta pot products are handmade and naturally fragile, making them susceptible to breakage during delivery.

While we take great care in packing each item securely, minor cracks, chips, or crumbled pieces may occur. This is a natural part of working with handcrafted clays and does not affect taste or enjoyment.
