Expect deeply grounded notes of wet soil, cement, and that unmistakable petrichor scent — like rain hitting dry earth. With their natural texture and grounded, mineral-rich taste, these are a fast favourite among clay lovers.

Traditional Clay Origins:

Across India, the practice of eating clay — known as mitti khana — has deep cultural and sensory roots. Among the most cherished varieties are Nakumatt clays, valued for their cement-like snap, clean earthy taste, and smooth, powdery finish. Traditionally enjoyed for their grounding aroma and mineral depth, these clays have long been gathered, sun-dried, and roasted to create the distinctive textures clay enthusiasts love today.

Mud Cakes honour that legacy by blending fragments of classic Nakumatt and other Indian grey clays, capturing the essence of this long-standing geophagy tradition in a compact, crumbly form that celebrates both heritage and modern sensory pleasure.

Uses:

  • Sensory play and mindful texture enjoyment

  • Collecting and aesthetic display

  • Controlled clay tasting for pica and geophagy cravings

  • Relaxation or grounding through crunch and texture

  • Pairing with firmer clays for contrast

Storage Tips

To keep your clays and treats fresh, crunchy, and full of flavour, always store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from moisture, humidity, and strong odours. Exposure to air or dampness can alter both texture and taste.

We highly recommend using our stash boxes, available on the website — designed specifically to protect and organise your clay collection with ease.

Handling Guidelines

  • clean, dry hands

Fragility Disclaimer

All clay treats and terracotta pot products are handmade and naturally fragile, making them susceptible to breakage during delivery.

While we take great care in packing each item securely, minor cracks, chips, or crumbled pieces may occur. This is a natural part of working with handcrafted clays and does not affect taste or enjoyment.
