Details
Product Overview:
African Ulo (410g) delivers a dense, flavourful crunch straight from the heart of Nigeria’s clay traditions. This version of Ulo is more compact and uniform than typical layered styles, offering firmer chunks with a dry exterior and a mild inner flake. Its taste leans into earthiness with a whisper of smokiness and a faint finish reminiscent of rain hitting asphalt or sun-warmed soil. The texture is satisfyingly hard with a crisp initial bite, followed by a subtly waxy, clay-rich crumble that doesn’t overwhelm the palate. While less smoky than other Ulo types, this batch still offers that signature grounded profile—perfect for those who prefer a mellow, consistent crunch without heavy layering.

Traditional Clay Origins:
Ulo clay, also called Nigerian Ulo or kaolin, is a widely consumed edible clay known for its earthy aroma and distinctive texture. Traditionally used across West Africa and beyond, Ulo is often enjoyed for both its sensory properties and cultural significance. This compact variant preserves the essential character of Ulo while delivering a firmer bite and more refined flavour. Naturally sun-dried and smoked, these chunks maintain the clay’s authentic mineral content without added chemicals, offering a pure taste of African earth with every crunch.

Storage Tips
To keep your clays and treats fresh, crunchy, and full of flavour, always store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from moisture, humidity, and strong odours. Exposure to air or dampness can alter both texture and taste.
We highly recommend using our stash boxes, available on the website — designed specifically to protect and organise your clay collection with ease.
Handling Guidelines
- clean, dry hands.
- wooden spoon included with your order
Fragility Disclaimer
All clay treats and terracotta pot products are handmade and naturally fragile, making them susceptible to breakage during delivery.
While we take great care in packing each item securely, minor cracks, chips, or crumbled pieces may occur. This is a natural part of working with handcrafted clays and does not affect taste or enjoyment.
To help, every order includes a wooden spoon — ideal for enjoying broken pieces or powder just as deliciously as the whole form.
