Details

Long, crisp, and satisfyingly earthy — Mexican Sticks are slender, brick-like rods made from authentic Mexican barro terracotta clay. Each piece offers a hearty, medium-hard crunch that breaks into fine, edible granules before softening into a gentle powdery melt. Expect a bold flavour experience with metallic undertones, scorched-earth depth, and that familiar cement-like edge that defines true Mexican clay. Natural, sunbaked, and beautifully rustic, these sticks deliver the pure taste of terracotta in every satisfying bite.

Traditional Clay Origins:
Formed from the same barro rojo terracotta clay used in traditional Mexican pottery, Mexican Sticks carry centuries of craftsmanship and cultural heritage. Across the Andean and Mesoamerican worlds, edible clay — known as chaco in Quechua and pasa in Aymara — was consumed for its mineral benefits and grounding qualities. These clays, naturally rich in smectites, were used to line cooking vessels and even blended into earthy sauces and pastes. Each Mexican Stick honours that deep-rooted tradition — a crunchy, mineral-rich echo of the earth’s own story, shaped by sun, soil, and history.

Uses:

  • Sensory play and mindful texture enjoyment

  • Collecting and aesthetic display

  • Controlled clay tasting for pica and geophagy cravings

  • Relaxation or grounding through texture and scent

  • Soaking and softening for deeper red-earth flavour exploration

Storage Tips

To keep your clays and treats fresh, crunchy, and full of flavour, always store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from moisture, humidity, and strong odours. Exposure to air or dampness can alter both texture and taste.

We highly recommend using our stash boxes, available on the website — designed specifically to protect and organise your clay collection with ease.

Handling Guidelines

  • clean, dry hands

Fragility Disclaimer

All clay treats and terracotta pot products are handmade and naturally fragile, making them susceptible to breakage during delivery.

While we take great care in packing each item securely, minor cracks, chips, or crumbled pieces may occur. This is a natural part of working with handcrafted clays and does not affect taste or enjoyment.
